Made in silver gilt and signed by César, the Compressions are signature to the artist's artistic excellence and acute creativity.
Originally conceived as a series of monumental sculptures, the concept came to life after a visit to a scrap merchant in the late 50s. What was meant to be a simple search for metal to experiment with, turned into a revelating experience after César found a hydraulic crushing machine in operation.
Produced in a wide range of materials ranging from compacted automobiles or even junk, the Compressions were also exquisitely transferred into jewellery, as a limited series of pendants composed of flattened and melted bijoux.
Resembling small totem poles, the Compression Pendants were thoroughly produced by César in collaboration with Pascal Morabito, the famous jeweller designer and goldsmith in the early seventies.
