Influenced by Victorian 'Natura Morta’ studies of plants, Christopher Thompson Royds immortalises found wildflowers by delicately tracing them and subsequently hand cutting them into layers of paper thin gold or silver, binding them with fine gold wire. Finishing them with a careful hand painting on each surface, each piece is housed in a dedicated marbled folio box, an allusion to the Hans Sloane Herbarium at the Natural History Museum, and a nod to the ephemeral vein that runs through the artist's entire artistic approach.
