LIVING WITH ARTIST'S JEWELS | DESIGN MIAMI / BASEL 2015, STAND G10

Louisa Guinness Gallery is delighted to present “Living with Artist’s Jewels” a new group show of artist-made jewellery exclusively for Design Miami/ Basel.

Creating wearable sculpture is a challenge for any artist. Not only are they bound by scale and function, they must also consider the effect of movement. Unsurprisingly, most artists begin with form (the more familiar element) and end with function. The resulting jewels are wonderfully sculptural. Unlike conventional gem-stone jewellery, these “objet d’art” are as aesthetically powerful off the body as on it; they are not designed to be kept in a safe.

“Living with Artist’s Jewels” is a celebration of this unique quality. It is a show that encourages the viewer to live with their artist’s jewels as they do their painting or sculpture. Laid out in an informal sitting room the viewer will see artist’s jewels weaved into the fabric of a living environment; including bespoke jewellery display boxes designed by the gallery.

As an artists whose jewels are notably sculptural, the exhibition will have a particular emphasis on the work of Greek sculptress Sophia Vari. We will also be showing new work by Anish Kapoor, Ron Arad and Claude Lalanne.
